Before you begin your
treatment, there are a few things you should know about Chinese
Medicine to assist you in maximizing your experience. Chinese Medicine
involves a complete treatment program of acupuncture, Chinese herbal
medicine, tuina therapy (a massage technique), nutritional counseling,
and lifestyle modification counseling.
Your treatment program will
integrate a combination of modalities, including a thorough examination
based on the principles of traditional Chinese medical theory as well
as current western medical techniques. The initial examination includes
a detailed interview, tongue and pulse diagnosis, physical exams, vital signs, and assessment of any pertinent laboratory tests you
have with you. Your course of treatment will depend on the severity
and complexity of your condition. The general rule is: the more severe
or chronic the disease, the more courses of treatment required.
Does acupuncture hurt? Acupuncture treatments are virtually painless, using hair-thin needles.
Are acupuncture needles sterile? Yes. Individually-wrapped stainless steel, disposable, sterile needles are always used.
Does health insurance cover acupuncture? Many insurance companies and worker's compensation programs cover acupuncture. Please call our office or your insurance agent if you have any questions regarding your particular coverage.
